CLOUDS -- COOL PICS

Cool pictures of rare clouds on Planet Earth. Clouds fill the skies above us and are part of our every day lives, often going unnoticed. However, there are some clouds that are so rare that you will be very lucky to see them in your lifetime. This is a list of the top 10 most rarest cloud formations (in no particular order) that for those lucky enough to see them, were caught on camera.

1. Nacreous Clouds
These rare clouds, sometimes called mother-of-pearl clouds, are 15 - 25km (9 -16 miles) high in the stratosphere and well above tropospheric clouds.




They have iridescent colours but are higher and much rarer than ordinary iridescent clouds. They are seen mostly but not exclusively in polar regions and in winter at high latitudes, Scandinavia, Alaska, Northern Canada. Lower level iridescent clouds can be seen anywhere.





Nacreous clouds shine brightly in high altitude sunlight up to two hours after ground level sunset or before dawn. Their unbelievably bright iridescent colours and slow movement relative to any lower clouds make them an unmistakable and unforgettable sight.







2. Mammatus Clouds

Mammatus are pouch-like cloud structures and a rare example of clouds in sinking air.
Sometimes very ominous in appearance, mammatus clouds are harmless and do not mean that a tornado is about to form - a commonly held misconception. In fact, mammatus are usually seen after the worst of a thunderstorm has passed.




3. Altocumulus Castelanus
Also known as jellyfish clouds due to their jellyfish-like appearance.
These formed around 17,000 ft due to when the rush of moist air comes from the Gulf Stream and gets trapped between layers of dry air. The top of the cloud rises into a jellyfish shape and long tentacles known as “trailing virga” form from rain drops that have evaporated.



4. Noctilucent Clouds
Noctilucent Clouds or Polar Mesopheric Clouds: This is an extroadinarily rare cloud formation that occurs out on the verge of space between 82km to 102 km from the earth’s surface.
Noctilucent clouds appear to be luminous yet they reflect the sunlight from the other side of the earth at night, giving them a glowing appearance





5. Mushroom Clouds
A mushroom cloud is a distinctive mushroom-shaped cloud of smoke, condensed water vapor, or debris resulting from a very large explosion. They are most commonly associated with nuclear explosions, but any sufficiently large blast will produce the same sort of effect.
Volcano eruptions and impact events can produce natural mushroom clouds.

Mushroom cloudsorm as a result of the sudden formation of a large mass of hot low-density gases near the ground creating a Rayleigh-Taylor instability. The mass of gas rises rapidly, resulting in turbulent vortices curling downward around its edges and drawing up a column of additional smoke and debris in the centre to form its “stem”. The mass of gas eventually reaches an altitude where it is no longer less dense than the surrounding air and disperses, the debris drawn upward from the ground scattering and drifting back down.





6. Cirrus Kelvin-Helmholtz
Appearing as a slender, horizontal spiral of cloud, cirrus Kelvin-Helmholtz is one of the most distinctive cloud formations. However, it tends to dissipate only a minute or two after forming and, as a result, is rarely observed.

Average height is around 16,500 ft.



7. Lenticular Clouds
Lenticular clouds, technically known as altocumulus standing lenticularis, are stationary lens-shaped clouds that form at high altitudes, normally aligned at right-angles to the wind direction.
Where stable moist air flows over a mountain or a range of mountains, a series of large-scale standing waves may form on the downwind side. Lenticular clouds sometimes form at the crests of these waves. Under certain conditions, long strings of lenticular clouds can form, creating a formation known as a wave cloud.






8. Roll Clouds
A roll cloud is a low, horizontal tube-shaped arcus cloud associated with a thunderstorm gust front, or sometimes a cold front. Roll clouds can also be a sign of possible microburst activity.
Cool air sinking air from a storm cloud’s downdraft spreads out across the surface with the leading edge called a gust front. This outflow undercuts warm air being drawn into the storm’s updraft. As the cool air lifts the warm moist air water condenses creating cloud, which often rolls with the different winds above and below (wind shear).

9. Shelf Clouds
A shelf cloud is a low, horizontal wedge-shaped arcus cloud, associated with a thunderstorm gust front (or occasionally with a cold front, even in the absence of thunderstorms).
Unlike a roll cloud, a shelf cloud is attached to the base of the parent cloud above it (usually a thunderstorm).
Rising cloud motion often can be seen in the leading (outer) part of the shelf cloud, while the underside often appears turbulent, boiling, and wind-torn.


10. Stratocumulus Clouds
According to the Sapporo Meteorological Observatory, these low-altitude stratocumulus clouds were rolled into long, distinctive ribbons after becoming trapped in air currents.
While it is not uncommon for wind to form such patterns in stratocumulus clouds, photos that clearly show the clouds rolled into strips are rare, says the observatory.

FORMATTING PC&INSTALLING OS

Formatting with newer operating systems like XP or ME is simpler then ever. Boot from your CDROM and follow the steps to install Windows XP. If your CD does not boot into the XP install, you need to enter your BIOS to make sure the CD drive is the first boot device. When you reboot watch your screen for a message similar to "hit delete to enter setup".



Hit whichever key is tells you to (usually delete, f8,f9, f10, etc.)


and when in setup, browse around for boot sequence. It is in different places for different bios', so take your time. Nothing can be hurt as long you dont make silly changes and select save when exiting. How you make BIOS changes differs from board to board, sometimes you select what you want to change and hit enter, other times you use the + or - keys. The bottom of the screen will explain how in any bios setup.


Ok, a few steps in, XP will notify you that an operating sytem is already installed. At this point, continue with install and you will be asked if you want to format the drive. Format it as NTFS (FAT is an outdated system and NTFS is much better and more secure) and install will automatically continue.




About Older Operating Systems (Windows 98, ME):

You should be able to boot from the CD from Windows 98 SE or newer, though I have seen Windows 98 SE CD's that will not boot and follow similar steps. In the case you can not boot from CD, heres what to do. Boot from the Windows startup floppy disk. If you do not have one, go to Start, Settings, Control Panel, Add\Remove Programs, Add\Remove Windows Components, Startup Disk.


Before you continue, you should make sure that you can see your CD drive so that you will be able to install Windows when it comes time. Type "d: enter" (without quotes, assuming your CD drive is d:, it may be e: or f: You can then type "dir enter" (without quotes) and it should list the contents of the CDROM and you should see the CD drive light up.



Now that you know you can install Windows when ready, we can continue. At the a: prompt type "format c:" without the quotes and you will be given a warning that all daya will be deleted. Answer yes (y) and hit enter.




Your drive is now formatting. When done, it will ask you a name for your drive. You can hit enter for no name, or select a name for your hard drive (Windows, Jim, C Drive for example). Your drive is now formatted and you can install Windows by typing "D:\setup" (without quotes assuming d: is your CD as mentioned above) and your Windows setup will begin.





A final suggestion, if you have a CD burner or a spare hard drive, would be to create an image of your hard drive after you get all the Windows updates along with your favorite programs and settings installed. This will allow you to return to a clean format in minutes next time. Its exactly like creating your own customized version of a restore program like Compaq or Dell sens with new computers.

If u still feeling the above is complicated,follow those simple steps:

The process of formatting is as follows:

1. Insert the WINDOWS XP bootable disk in the CD drive.
2. Restart your PC (if it was already running).
3. Press enter when the monitor reads PRESS ANY KEY.
4. Now comes the time to partition your drives.
5. If you want to delete any partition, press D or L(whichever is displayed on the screen).
6. Afterwards format the drive you want to install the operating system (XP) in.
7. Press ENTER.
8. The formatting will start.
9. Follow the procedures.
10.It should take around 40 minutes for the installation to finish.
11.Use windows(HAVE A GOOD TIME).

Was Einstein's Brain Different?

Of course it was-people's brains are as different as their faces. In his lifetime many wondered if there was anything especially different in Einstein's. He insisted that on his death his brain be made available for research. When Einstein died in 1955, pathologist Thomas Harvey quickly preserved the brain and made samples and sections. He reported that he could see nothing unusual. The variations were within the range of normal human variations. There the matter rested until 1999. Inspecting samples that Harvey had carefully preserved, Sandra F. Witelson and colleagues discovered that Einstein's brain lacked a particular small wrinkle (the parietal operculum) that most people have. Perhaps in compensation, other regions on each side were a bit enlarged-the inferior parietal lobes. These regions are known to have something to do with visual imagery and mathematical thinking. Thus Einstein was apparently better equipped than most people for a certain type of thinking. Yet others of his day were probably at least as well equipped-Henri Poincaré and David Hilbert, for example, were formidable visual and mathematical thinkers, both were on the trail of relativity, yet Einstein got far ahead of them. What he did with his brain depended on the nurturing of family and friends, a solid German and Swiss education, and his own bold personality.

A late bloomer: Even at the age of nine Einstein spoke hesitantly, and his parents feared that he was below average intelligence. Did he have a learning or personality disability (such as "Asperger's syndrome," a mild form of autism)? There is not enough historical evidence to say. Probably Albert was simply a thoughtful and somewhat shy child. If he had some difficulties in school, the problem was probably resistance to the authoritarian German teachers, perhaps compounded by the awkward situation of a Jewish boy in a Catholic school.

MS DHONI-The Unique Captain Of INDIA


Mahendra Singh Dhoni believes in destiny with a pinch of hard work. India's man of the moment attributes the fabulous Twenty20 World Cup win to the team's destiny.


"Whatever is destined to happen will happen. It is not just my own destiny, it was the destiny of the whole team --but I believe unless you do your required hard work you don't achieve it", he said.

Dhoni took just a fortnight to prove his mettle as the captain and if the World Cup performance is anything to go by, India has found its 'Captain Cool' in the star batsman-stumper with flowing tresses.

The 26-year-old Dhoni's maturity and composure in pressure cooker situations and his shrewd captaincy stood out in both the matches against Pakistan, as also in the semifinal against Australia.

After the group match with Pakistan ended in a tie, Dhoni asked Robin Uthappa, Virender Sehwag and Harbhajan Singh to take the bowl-out, resting his tired pacers. Dhoni anticipated such situations and had done the homework.

His opposite number Shoaib Malik was at sea and after India won the bowl-out 3-0 to maintain its clean slate against Pakistan in World Cup, Malik admitted he had no clue about it.

In the match against Australia too, Dhoni showed tremendous courage. He took a calculated gamble by asking unheralded Joginder Sharma to bowl the last over.

Teammates warned him that the Haryana all-rounder's military pace would make him an easy meat for the Aussies but Dhoni felt it would be difficult to score off Joginder's pace, or rather lack of it, and the captain stood vindicated in the end as Australia eventually lost by 15 runs.

It was the same story last night. Pakistan needed 13 runs off the last over and Dhoni again tossed the ball to Joginder.

Misbah-ul-Haq was going great guns and he hit Joginder for a six to reduce the gap but the Indian did the trick again as Misbah scooped to perish, finding S Sreesanth at short fine leg. Once again, Dhoni had outsmarted his rivals and it was as much India's win as it was for Dhoni's leadership skills.

Dhoni loves life in the fast lane, something evident from his penchant for fast bikes, and it's hardly surprising that within three years, the affable swashbuckler rose from the obscurity of Jharkhand to lead India to Twenty20 World Cup glory.
