My Week My View!!!!

There's been a  plan always in mind to start writing again in blog about my views, thoughts and experience over a period of time,Even i had ideas on what to write and how to put things in order.I guess the inception is not too strong to make it sooner, also being lazy(since 1989 ;)) delayed the activity for a long time. The inception has grown well and finally i decided to throw the hesitation ,when i read one of my old-incompleted post on "Aayirathil Oruvan Review".

Things  are so different when i compare my old writings/post with the way how i am etching it now, i had the beautiful flow (the young adolescent mind) and crazy nature which posted everything like a river , not caring about the path it flows but runs strongly and passionately. In late Twenties , i have developed a habit of more thinking(an obsession) , which made me feel bit tired and frustrated. Probably it paved the path for me to get into writing to deviate myself and enjoy myself. Anyway thanks to the almighty(Krishna!!!!) who made me to write again!!! Hurray here I am......... My Space,My Views,My thoughts and My Journey!!!!!!!!!

Cricket- I knew that the same word excites all the indian kids till date, but being 90's Child the thought always reminds the batting legends of India- Sachin,Dravid,Ganguly and Laxman!!!!! Lately Sehwag and Yuvi!! My best memories of cricket always have these stalwarts in mind.Okay,No more past digging, lets get into present!!!

Even now i am following cricket(Including List A Matches) , but not with the same intensity and passion during my childhood days.Gurkeerat Singh is the name comes out of my mind when i shuffle it over the last week cricket .This guy seems to be good Asian All-Rounder(Not like Jadeja,I mean it!!) who has a healthy batting average and good off-break bowling in Indian Domestic circuit. It is astonishing to see an indian player taking 5 wickets and scoring more than 50 in a Match against Bangladesh ' A'-the team which has 9 of its players from senior squad,If i have written it 5 years ago, people would have laughed at me considering the form of Bangladesh then and now.I wrote about him not only due to the single match, he was the man of the match in the recently concluded Tri-Series final  for his innings with both bat and ball!!!!
He is consistently playing well in the India A matches, i feel  he is the right guy to fit into the long searching all rounder spot of india's ODI squad.Hopefully he will make the cut into the upcoming Ind vs SA Series at least for one match.(This was drafted on 18th Sep 2015, on 20th Sep Gurkeerat is selected for the first three ODI against SA)

Books- Don't worry , I am not a nerd or geek to speak about my studious side when i mention it.
I mean the novels, stories ,Magazines and biographies.I was a voracious reader during my early teens, used to read from a weekly magazine(Siruvarmalar to Any Novels). Actually the reason why i started reading more books was to avoid studying my subjects, for outsiders it might look like 'gaining knowledge' of it but truth is to keep myself delaying the inevitable. But in real sense, reading makes you to realize yourself(you soul) and calm yourself , they will mature your perception on world and make you widen your gaze on world. Sujatha's Novels, short stories are my favorites at that time, whatever be the genre he narrates things casually and  passionately. Either its about human emotions, motivational stories or science fictions or crime stories, he handled things with ease and gave the readers an awesome experience. Some of the worthy mentions are Srirangathu Thevathaigal,Aaah!,En iniya Iyanthira and Meendum Jeano.

I have read some of the Jayakanthan stories too at that time,I find his narration and contents are bit ahead of time or for my age it could be boring and slow.Contradictory to sujatha, its not so much gripping or interesting to read, but i felt something strange at the end of reading his works.May be its because of the reality that hits you hard in his lines or some mindblowing  one liners where he easily explains the content uniquely. In Last year's Chennai book Fair, I bought a Sujatha's Novel and a book of Jayakanthan stories(consolidation of short stories published in Vikatan) after giving a big thought. Commercial and fantasy appeals first to us rather than truth/Reality, so as expected i read the Sujatha's Novel first and completed it in two days.

I started reading Jayakanthan stories slowly(made me little boring), did not find/feel anything even after reading some hand picked stories.Probably my current life style(runs more like Hari's movies) made it look so pale and slow.Again last week, i picked one of the stories, "Antharangam Punithamanthu"- story about an guy in his early twenties and his view on change in life style of his parents and their Grand parents.I dont want to give away all the details of it, but to mention a few lines that made me feel why Jayakanthan is more appealing and so simple in his narration.

As this child grew with his grand parents till his studies, he find the city/Modern life of his parents so odd/alienated  when he comes back to home. The Author narrates this line in style, "He does not know that his grand parents has not started their life as a grandpa and grandma itself after marriage". Forgive me if i have not provided the meaning as such, but surely be giving you a thought to read the book.I  realized and awed that how simply he explained whole content of the story with in one line.Surely one can spend his time on reading his stories to get a calm and composed array of thoughts.

This is my post after a long time and i am not so good in English, so bear me if you feel more repetitive phrases/grammar errors. My idea is to share the thought/view which i had in the last week.
Thanks for Reading, Catch you again next week with more thoughts and views..... Journey goes on!!!!

FIREFOX 4!!!

Its Celebration time for the Firefox Users.A browser which is used by 1/4th of the WWW users has intended to release Firefox 4 in October or November of this year!!

"Performance is a huge, huge, huge thing for us," said Mike Beltzner, vice president of engineering for Firefox, in a Webcast on Tuesday about plans for the browser. "We created the performance story, and we've got to keep at it."

Among other features planned for Firefox 4--and Mozilla emphatically cautions that plans can change--are support for high-speed graphics and text through Direct2D on Windows; a tidier user interface with more prominent and powerful tabs; support for several newer Web technologies; 64-bit versions; and compatibility with multitouch interfaces.

Performance means any number of things in a browser. Among them: the time it takes to launch the program or to load a Web page, the responsiveness of the user interface to commands such as opening new tabs, and the speed with which Web-based JavaScript programs execute. Firefox programmers also will work on more perceptual speed improvements, Beltzner said, such as changing the order that Web page elements appear on the screen and the appearance of the page-loading progress bar.

First, there's new energy in competitors including Microsoft's Internet Explorer 9 and Chrome from Web powerhouse Google. Second, making abrupt changes is harder without ruffling feathers among its large user base--Firefox accounts for roughly a quarter of the browser usage worldwide. Third, Firefox is expanding from PCs to mobile phones and tablets with very different hardware requirements. Last, a long list of new technologies are profoundly transforming browsers into a foundation for Web applications, but many of those advancements are far from settled.

Beltzner recognizes the challenges.

"We are in it to win it," Beltzner said. "It's no longer the case where it's all easy wins. There's hard work to be done here. We have to make sure we're the ones leading the charge in keeping the Web open for users."

Mozilla established a Firefox 3.6, 3.7, and 4.0 release plan in 2009, but the organization warned early this year that the browser schedule was changing. Tuesday's Webcast offered a new schedule with no Firefox 3.7.

Why the road map change? One key feature of 3.7 called out-of-process plug-ins, which moves plug-ins such as Adobe Systems' Flash Player to their own separate memory area for better stability, was advanced to Firefox 3.6.4, code-named Lorentz and in beta testing right now. Meanwhile, Mozilla concluded it needed more time for a planned user-interface overhaul and to be liberated by a "rebooted" plan for a new extensions foundation called Jetpack.
The heart of Web programming is Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), and Mozilla is building into Firefox a new HTML5 "parser," the part of the browser that interprets the Web page code. The new parser can handle Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) and mathematical equations interleaved with the rest of a Web page, runs as a separate computing process to improve browser responsiveness, and fixes "dozens" of longstanding bugs on the previous parser, Mozilla said.

Ramalinga Raju- a Cheat?? -Satyam Debacle

Satyam Computer on Wednesday plunged into a deep crisis, as B Ramalinga Raju resigned as its Chairman after admitting to major financial wrong-doings and saying his last-ditch efforts to fill the "fictitious assets with real ones" through Maytas acquisition failed.

The beleaguered IT giant, already under scanner over the aborted acquisition of firms promoted by the Chairman's family, received a rude shock days ahead of its January 10 board meeting, with Raju stepping down along with his brother and Managing Director B Rama Raju.

"It was like riding a tiger, not knowing how to get off without being eaten," Ramalinga Raju said in a letter to Satyam's board of directors, wherein he listed major financial wrong-doings over the years to inflate the profits.

Listed at New York Stock Exchange, the company could face regulatory action in the US, analysts said.

While Raju recommended DSP Merrill Lynch be entrusted the task of "quickly exploring some merger opportunities," the company informed the stock exchanges that the investment banker has terminated its engagement with Satyam.

Noting that every attempt to eliminate gaps in balance sheet, purely on account of inflated profits over several years, failed, Raju said: "I am now prepared to subject myself to the laws of the land and face consequences thereof."

Low percentage of promoter equity in the company, where four independent directors resigned in the last two weeks over the acquisition fiasco, could lead to a takeover and expose the gap, he said in the letter, also sent to regulator SEBI.

The promoters' share in Satyam has now dipped to just over 3 per cent that too is pledged with lenders.

Shares of Satyam plunged by over 40 per cent immediately after the announcement of resignations, necessitating an overhaul of the Board and management.

Following is the text of the letter Raju wrote to the Satyam board:

"It is with deep regret and tremendous burden that I am carrying on my conscience, that I would like to bring the following facts to your notice:

1. The Balance Sheet carries as of September 30, 2008,

a) Inflated (non-existent) cash and bank balances of Rs 5,040 crore (as against Rs 5,361 crore reflected in the books);

b) An accrued interest of Rs 376 crore, which is non-existent

c) An understated liability of Rs 1,230 crore on account of funds arranged by me;

d) An overstated debtors' position of Rs 490 crore (as against Rs 2,651 reflected in the books);

2. For the September quarter(Q2) we reported a revenue of Rs 2,700 crore and an operating margin of Rs 649 crore(24 per cent of revenue) as against the actual revenues of Rs 2,112 crore and an actual operating margin of Rs 61 crore (3 per cent of revenues). This has resulted in artificial cash and bank balances going up by Rs 588 crore in Q2 alone.

The gap in the balance sheet has arisen purely on account of inflated profits over several years (limited only to Satyam standalone, books of subsidiaries reflecting true performance).

What started as a marginal gap between actual operating profit and the one reflected in the books of accounts continued to grow over the years.

It has attained unmanageable proportions as the size of the company operations grew significantly (annualised revenue run rate of Rs 11,276 crore in the September quarter, 2008, and official reserves of Rs 8,392 crore).

The differential in the real profits and the one reflected in the books was further accentuated by the fact that the company had to carry additional resources and assets to justify a higher level of operations thereby significantly increasing the costs.

Every attempt made to eliminate the gap failed. As the promoters held a small percentage of equity, the concern was that poor performance would result in the takeover, thereby exposing the gap. It was like riding a tiger, not knowing how to get off without being eaten.

The aborted Maytas acquisition deal was the last attempt to fill the fictitious assets with real ones. Maytas' investors were convinced that this is a good divestment opportunity and a strategic fit.

One Satyam's problem was solved, it was hoped that Maytas' payments can be delayed. But that was not to be. What followed in the last several days is common knowledge.

I would like the board to know:

1. That neither myself, nor the Managing Director (including our spouses) sold any shares in the last eight years - excepting for a small proportion declared and sold for philanthropic purposes.

2. That in the last two years a net amount of Rs 1,230 crore was arranged to Satyam (not reflected in the books of Satyam) to keep the operations going by resorting to pledging all the promoter shares and raising funds from known sources by giving all kinds of assurances (statement enclosed only to the members of the board).

Significant dividend payments, acquisitions, capital expenditure to provide for growth did not help matters. Every attempt was made to keep the wheel moving and to ensure prompt payment of salaries to the associates. The last straw was the selling of most of the pledged shares by the lenders on account of margin triggers.

3. That neither me nor the managing director took even one rupee/dollar from the company and have not benefited in financial terms on account of the inflated results.

4. None of the board members, past or present, had any knowledge of the situation in which the company is placed.

Even business leaders and senior executives in the company, such as, Ram Mynampati, Subu D, T R Anand, Keshab Panda, Virender Agarwal, A S Murthy, Hari T, S V Krishnan, Vijay Prasad, Manish Mehta, Murli V, Shriram Papani, Kiran Kavale, Joe Lagioia, Ravindra Penumetsa, Jayaraman and Prabhakar Gupta are unaware of the real situation as against the books of accounts. None of my or managing directors' immediate or extended family members has any idea about these issues.

Having put these facts before you, I leave it to the wisdom of the board to take the matters forward. However, I am also taking the liberty to recommend the following steps:

1. A task force has been formed in the last few days to address the situation arising out of the failed Maytas acquisition attempt.

This consists of some of the most accomplished leaders of Satyam: Subu D, T.R. Anand, Keshab Panda and Virendra Agarwal, representing business functions, and A S Murthy, Hari T and Murali V representing support functions.

I suggest that Ram Mynampati be made the chairman of this Task Force to immediately address some of the operational matters on hand. Ram can also act as an interim CEO reporting to the board.

2. Merrill Lynch can be entrusted with the task of quickly exploring some merger opportunities.

3. You may have a 'restatement of accounts' prepared by the auditors in light of the facts that I have placed before you.

I have promoted and have been associated with Satyam for well over 20 years now. I have seen it grow from few people to 53,000 people, with 185 Fortune 500 companies as customers and operations in 66 countries. Satyam has established an excellent leadership and competency base at all levels.

I sincerely apologise to all Satyamites and stakeholders, who have made Satyam a special organisation, for the current situation. I am confident they will stand by the company in this hour of crisis.

In light of the above, I fervently appeal to the board to hold together to take some important steps. TR Prasad is well placed to mobilise a support from the government at this crucial time.

With the hope that members of the Task Force and the financial advisor, Merrill Lynch (now Bank of America), will stand by the company at this crucial hour, I am marking copies of the statement to them as well.

Under the circumstances, I am tendering the resignation as the chairman of Satyam and shall continue in this position only till such time the current board is expanded. My continuance is just to ensure enhancement of the board over the next several days or as early as possible.

I am now prepared to subject myself to the laws of the land and face the consequences thereof.

First vertebrate eye to use mirror

Scientists have discovered a new fish in the deep waters between Samoa and New Zealand, which is the first vertebrate found with eyes that use mirrors, rather than a lens, to focus light.

According to a report in New Scientist, the unusual fish, known as 'Spookfish', actually has just two eyes, but each eye has two parts, one looking upwards and the other down.

The team found that the part looking down uses thousands of tiny reflective crystals acting like mirrors that are angled in slightly different directions to focus light onto the retina. This is completely different to a typical fish eye, which uses a single lens to bend light onto a focal point, similar to the way the human eye works. Other tubular-eyed fish do use optical techniques to look sideways and downwards but these mechanisms have no way to focus light into a clear image.

The spookfish is the only deep-sea fish with eyes that have been shown to produce a focused image when looking both up and down. "This is the first demonstration that vertebrates are not as optically boring as we thought," said Douglas. According to Mike Land from the University of Sussex, UK, the eye is "intriguing" and could be unique to the spookfish. "I doubt we'll see this in other vertebrates. Had it been,we would have surely discovered it by now," he said.
